Why prediction markets? Why operators are adding them now
Your customers already have opinions about elections, rate decisions and crypto prices, and your product has no line to take them to. Prediction markets close that gap on the wallet, brand and licence you already run.

Operators are adding prediction markets for a plain commercial reason: their customers already have opinions about elections, rate decisions, crypto prices, award shows and the weather, and the product in front of them has no line to take those opinions to. A prediction market is a way to say yes to that customer without building a second business.

The demand is already measured
Pew Research Center put a number on the category in September 2026. Combined monthly trading volume on the two largest prediction exchanges rose from $25.7 billion in May 2026 to $53.0 billion in July, more than double, and Pew found the increase came mostly from sports.1

That volume is counted differently from a sportsbook's handle. Each contract is counted at its one-dollar value rather than at the price paid, so the two numbers should never be set side by side. The regulated wagering market that prediction markets sit beside is growing on its own terms: in Illinois, one of the few US states that publishes its sports wagering by sport and by bet type, settled handle rose from $7.01B in 2021 to $15.65B in 2025.2

The case is not only commercial. In an opinion piece for Forbes, the contributor John Tamny argues for prediction markets as an aggregation of knowledge.3 Whether or not you share the view, it describes the customer this category reaches: someone with a reasoned opinion about the world and nowhere in your product to put it.
Inventory for the hours your calendar leaves empty
A sportsbook lives on a fixture list. It has quiet hours, off-seasons and shoulder weeks, and a casino has no event inventory at all. The news cycle has none of those gaps. A catalogue that covers politics, economics, finance, crypto, weather, culture and sport gives a customer something to take a view on at the moments the core product is thin.
At the fast end of the category, recurring five-minute crypto windows on Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana open and settle one after another, every five minutes, which is a different rhythm entirely from a weekend slate.
A different customer, already in your product
The person who follows markets, macro or politics closely is often already signed in to your product for something else. Prediction markets give that customer a reason to stay, and give the casual sports customer a second kind of question to answer. They are a new vertical on the same account, not a new acquisition channel to fund.
A different risk shape from a book
A prediction market price is set by a market, expressed as cents on a one-dollar contract, and the fee is stated separately rather than carried inside the number. On Parity, the event risk is not warehoused, and your desk is not asked to price an election or a rate decision. Revenue sits on the transaction and platform layer rather than on a hold percentage. That is a large part of why the category can sit beside a book without a new trading team.
For a sportsbook, the practical effect is coverage: how prediction markets grow handle between game days sets out where the new inventory lands in the week.
Why the timing is about integration, not demand
The obstacle for most operators has never been whether customers want these markets. It has been the build: a normalised catalogue, prices that mean something, execution that protects the customer, positions marked live, and settlement that reaches the ledger exactly once. That stack is now available as infrastructure, which changes the question from "can we build this" to "which parts do we keep".
- What you keep
- The customer, the account and sign-in, KYC, responsible-gaming controls, the wallet, the brand and the licence.
- What you take
- The catalogue, live pricing, quotes, execution, positions with early exit, settlement and reconciliation, delivered as an embedded surface or an API.
- What you configure
- Which categories your customers see, by operator, region and individual customer, enforced on the catalogue, the quote and the order alike.
What it takes to start
With an embedded surface, your team builds a session endpoint, places an iframe and listens for messages, and settlement arrives at a signed, retried webhook. House Money runs it inside its own casino today.
The commercial detail for your type of business is on prediction markets for sportsbooks and prediction markets for casinos, and adding prediction markets without a rebuild covers what your own team has to build.
